Neatly printed, with a picture of the dependable looking mayor, comes the inaugural address of the Honorable Winfield Temple, mayor of Marlboro, Mass. Briefly and obviously ably analyzed are the industrial conditions and the financial conditions of the city, followed by a discussion of the work of the various city departments. This is the second inauguration of our classmate as mayor of the city of Marlboro.

As previously reported, Charlie Bolser has been practicing for the past two years swimming and clog dancing. Now he has taken up bee culture. As a part of his home equipment now he owns twelve hives of hardworking bees. Bolser says he is now immune to the sting of a bee. He states that after one becomes immune a bee sting is not painful. I gather it is rather soothing. It struck me it might be worth while to be stung once or twice, so that one might ignore a bad tempered or excited bee. I asked how many stings would produce immunity. Bolser said, "I don't know, perhaps two hundred." I have been considering this estimate carefully. To me it tells a story of constancy of mind given few of us.

The second interview was with John Poor. John complained that the college clock had recently been acting badly. He noticed as lately as noon that the clock was twenty seconds fast. I made a weak comparison of the inaccuracies of man-created contrivances as compared to the works of the universe. From this start I learned that John had been assisting in composing an epic poem, the scope of which is so wide as to cover the universe. As I understand it, the poet needed the names and locations of some of the stars as a temporary resting place for the spirit of his poem. John had been working out some sort of a timetable, with names and places. Obviously this is a tremendous service. Consider the situation of a spirit that proposed to alight say for Friday night on Uranus, and had miscalculated its position by a couple of million light years. That spirit would just be nowhere. John has routed that spirit so that all connections will be made readily, and with the least inconvenience. He also tells me that he has worked out some changes possible to ring on the new chimes. This is foresightedness. It would be terrible , to get our new chimes into the belfry in the new library, and then stand around finding out what we can play on them. John is also playing in the orchestra, and teaching astronomy.
