On Sunday August 25, the Alumni held a very fine picnic at Gearhart on the Pacific Coast. Blake Hering, our Association President, provided the setting by opening the beach home of his parents for the assembly.

We all brought our lunches and had our choice of ocean swimming, Softball, horseshoes, touch football, or sitting. The weather was perfect and the ocean water unusually mild. It really was an excellent meeting. We were especially pleased to have most of the entering Freshmen in attendance, namely: James M. Allison, William Burton Jr., William C. Farrens, Paul Shaman, all of Portland and vicinity; Jan G. Wyers of Hood River. We received letters of regret at not being able to attend from Hilton L. Graham of Grants Pass and James C. Carey of McMinville. Thus we have accounted for all of our members of the Class of 1961.

The boys all had their parents with them which gave us a chance to become acquainted from a family standpoint.

Our two new graduates from the Class of 1957, Gordon B. Evans and Peter Nieman were present, their parents also, so that an immediate continuity with the College was established.

The alumni and families who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Ted Brush '44 and four children, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Haessler '42 and two children, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Hering '53 and one child, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H. Martin '27 and three children, Mr. and Mrs. John Ross '19, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Woelfel '27 and one child, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Sercombe '21, one child and friend, J. Campbell Richardson '50 and Robert Chuniard '59.

We feel. pretty good about sending seven boys to Dartmouth this year and with the enthusiasm that has been generated we should do well from now on.
