The basketball team ran into difficulties. Like their predecessors in football, the five suddenly developed a flock of injuries, which left even Dolly Stark in a pessimistic mood, and it was through no fault of his that the team dropped two League games, and lost a few others.
Heinie Swarthout received an injured ankle, Red Hein was sent to the hospital with grippe, and the team battled Yale without either regular guard, Capt. Spaeth or Austin, appearing in the game. The previous night they had fought a great Penn championship team to a standstill, only to see the game pulled out by the Red and Blue by a 26-23 score.
Dolly Stark declared after the Penn game that it was the finest exhibition of basketball that he had ever witnessed on any court, which is saying a mouthful when you consider how long Dolly has been connected with the game.
The score of the Yale game was just one of those one point affairs, and Yale happened to be the victor, 25-24. Again Dartmouth put up a good fight, but with substitute guards, and general inability to shoot fouls, the game was lost.
The crying weakness of the current basketball team seems to be right in the foul shooting department. So many tries have been muffed, that this shortcoming has been vividly brought to mind by the final scores of the last two League games. There may be brighter days ahead.
Dartmouth's basketball team won their first League game in Hanover this year by defeating Princeton's veteran team by a 30-25 score. The Green showed a superior passing game, and only lapsed into defensive basketball towards the close, when they enjoyed a narrow lead.
