Prof. Eric P. Kelly in reviewing the Carnival number of The Dartmouth Pictorial said:
"There isn't any use these days in not keeping some kind of record book of undergraduate days. And if I had a record book and were an undergraduate and were keeping the book zealously, I should get a pair of scissors and a stick of glue (or whatever glue comes in) and cut the current number of The DartmouthPictorial all to pieces and mount the remains in such a book. Pictures are much better than clippings for such a purpose. They tell the story and tell it accurately. Printed pictures are better than photos for photos tend to color or curl with age.
"For beginning with the outdoor Queen of the Carnival on the cover to the scene of the 1932 attack upon College Hall at the end of the magazine there are about 90 pictures. They include all the phases of Carnival, snow sculpture, Pen Haile's snow tower on the campus, ski-jumping, fraternities, hockey, the Players (the best being Joe D'Esopo in Mephistotelian sartorials), costumes at the carnival ball, and a whole gallery of Dartmouth greats and near-greats. The pictures are all very clear, the faces easily distinguishable, and for that reason excellent material for mem book."
