The scholarship ratings for the year 1929-30 show that Alpha Sigma Phi again leads in the fraternity standings for the eighth consecutive time. Its average for the past year was 2.9. The college average for the year was 2.3, a gain over the preceding year. The non-fraternity group still leads the fraternity group with an average for the former of 2.6 and for the latter of 2.3 The leading ten fraternities in order are: Alpha Sigma Phi, Theta Chi, Pi Lambda Phi, Alpha Chi Rho, Kappa Sigma, Zeta Psi, Chi Phi, Phi Kappa Sigma, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.
The Dartmouth commenting on this report has fairly well sized up the position of the fraternity on the Dartmouth campus: "Fraternities at Dartmouth are simply and solely social organizations. They offer a place to play bridge, to throw the bull a bit. to have a girl on weekends of social awakening. Their members, as men of a little more marked social tendency, go out for extra-curricular work more generally."
