By EDWARD H. FORBUSH. SECRETARY OF STATE OF MASSACHUSETTS. Boston.
Published by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in three beautiful volumes, each illustrated with colored plates by the late Louis Agassiz Fuertes, the foremost ornithologilogical artist in this country, and with figures, drawings, and photographs. Volume one covers all the water birds, ducks and geese, marsh and shore birds. Volume two describes the game birds, birds of prey and the perching birds through the grackles. Volume three treats all the song birds from the sparrows through the thrushes and includes warblers, wrens, titmice, and other familiar birds. Every bird is given a scientific description of plumage, molts, field marks, voice, breeding, range, distribution in New England, and season in Massachusetts as well as a word picture of its haunts and habits by the author. This is the most complete and comprehensive work on the birds of this section.
