The other outfielders are Howard Harvey, small of stature and fleet of foot, who retains his lead-off position, and either Buckle Downey or Harold Andres. Andres, a good catcher, has been used in the field, for it has been assumed that McDonough, as captain of the team, will take part in all league games at least.
It occurred to us the other day that baseball will be at least one sport where the captain will not be elected merely because he belongs to this or that and is a good fellow. For with the new ruling which keeps the coaches off the bench during league games, the captain assumes full responsibility for all league games and the team is fully under his direction at all times. From a figurehead in college ball he has become the leader of the team in deed as well as name. And no player could fill that role better this year than McDonough. Coming back to the Southern trip, here are the scores:
Georgetown 9 Dartmouth 7 Catholic U. 4 Dartmouth 1 Mt. St. Mary's 1 Dartmouth 0 Gettysburg 7 Dartmouth 6 Dartmouth 5 Quantico 0 Dartmouth 4 Haverford 3
