The gift to Dartmouth College from the estate of Miss Lydia J. Pike of Dover, N. H., which was estimated at the time of her death last year at "over $100,000," was found upon the settlement of the estate to be in excess of $200,000.
Miss Pike, sister of the late Judge Robert Gordon Pike, Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court and a Dartmouth graduate in the Class of 1872, left practically her entire fortune to public institutions. The sum of $5,000 was given to Dartmouth College in memory of Miss Pike's brother, John E. Pike, and after several public and personal bequests were paid, the residue of the estate was given to the College in memory of Miss Pike's other brother, Judge Robert Gordon Pike. Judge Pike was a Visitor on the Chandler Foundation at Dartmouth from 1903 to his death in 1917.
