The December meeting of the Dartmouth Club of the Plainfields was held at the Shackamaxon Country Club, Saturday evening, December 26, 1981, at 8:45. The meeting was called together by Walter L. Hetfield 3d, president, and was well attended.
The Secretary reported that he had dispatched a letter of appreciation to Mr. Andrew L. McDonough, Notre Dame '19, thanking him for his cooperation in the Dartmouth Night affair.
A letter was received from the Cornell Club of Plainfield welcoming our new club to fellowship in Plainfield, and congratulating us on the success we have had with our October, November, and December meetings. One of their members in a kindly way said that he thought our entertainment committee seemed to be the one organization now in existence which seemed to be able to dispel the depression.
Expenses amounting to $149.95 were approved and it was reported that at the close of the year the Club finds itself with all bills paid and the treasury in such good condition that the Club will be able to follow the policy of the College in refraining from looking for dues or other financial commitments from the members between January 1 and July 1, which part of the year is left open for vigorous prosecution of the Alumni Fund.
The meeting was then turned over by President Walter L. Hetfield 3d to his three "musketeers," Arthur P. Hassell '28, George Emery '28, and John Herpel '28, who make up the entertainment committee.
The entertainment took the form of a dance and reception to Dartmouth's one hundred ninety-one undergraduates from New Jersey who are home for Christmas vacation. There was a very fine response, and the undergraduates of Cornell, Columbia, and Colgate gave us much cooperation. Bart Yiviano, Cornell football star, was credited with two touchdowns, inasmuch as he came in person and brought friends enough to fill two tables. Some Yale men joined with us likewise.
The house committee of the Shackamaxon Club was most gracious in its treatment of our party, and expressed so much pleasure with our party that they assured us that they would be pleased to have us return to their club for any future undertaking of like nature.
The Barbary Coast Orchestra, which has endeared itself to the College at Hanover, was present and performed most creditably.
