The 38th annual meeting of the Dartmouth Club of Detroit was held February 21, in the Henry II Room of the Hotel Statler. The total attendance was eighty. Dean Craven Laycock was the guest of honor, and other guests included Mr. Edwin L. Miller, assistant superintendent of the Detroit Board of Education; Dr. Daniel H. Fletcher, headmaster of the Detroit University School; Dr. Charles J. Keppel, assistant headmaster of Cranbrook School; Mr. Vaughn Blanchard, director of health education of Detroit; Mr. Owen Emmons, principal of Cooley High School; Mr. E. M. Conklin, principal of Hamtramck High School; Mr. B. J. Rivett, principal of Northwestern High School; as well as the athletic football coaches and football captains of the three high schools which were tied for first in the annual competition for the Dartmouth Cup. This cup, presented for the sixth time, is annually awarded to that Detroit high school whose football team has the best combined record in scholarship and athletics. This year found Cooley, Hamtramck, and Northwestern High Schools in a triple tie for first place. The cup was presented after the dinner.

The treasurer's report was read by Treasurer Ralph Norton '18. High lights included—substantial balance in the bank, more dues collected than in any previous year, more members paying dues than in any previous year, more money spent than in any previous year.

The nominating committee presented two complete slates. The results of the ensuing elections follow: president, Ford H. Whelden '25, re-elected for third year; vice-president, Ralph G. Norton '18; secretary and treasurer, Richard D. Brown '2B; assistant secretary and treasurer, Louis A. Heavenrich '32; executive committee: Alexander R. Maynard 'O5 (term expires 1936), Philip K. Watson 'l9 (term expires 1936), Milton P. Ghee 'l5 (term expires 1935), Robert E. Wiley '25 (term expires 1935), Frederick R. Husk 'l7 (term expires 1934), Charles A. Luck 'O6 (term expires 1934).

Ford Whelden spoke briefly on the figures relative to undergraduates from the Central States at Dartmouth in comparison to twenty other liberal arts institutions for men only. The statistics show Dartmouth leading all twenty both in members and per cent in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the five Central States as a whole. He mentioned the numerous reasons given by applicants as their reasons for selecting Dartmouth, and pointed out that one of the best reasons—the presence there of President Hopkins—was not realized by the applicants themselves until after their residence in the college community began. He then introduced Dean Laycock.

Dean Laycock, in a very absorbing talk, spoke of the remarkable scholastic record of the College in the last semester, of the financial affairs of the College, of its outlook for the future, of the qualities necessary in handling undergraduates, of the lives and recent deaths of Professor Patten and E. K. Hall, of several recent "cases" which came under his jurisdiction, and of the type of men now in Hanover.

The meeting concluded with the singing of "Men of Dartmouth."

Dean Laycock was the guest of the Detroit Club for three days. An informal meeting and bridge tournament and a trip to the Canadian cottage of Robert Turnbull '22 and Leonard Turnbull '23 accounted for the social activities of the two days preceding the annual banquet. Taken altogether the "Pow Wow," in spite of the Michigan bank holiday and a few bad Bnesses, was a gala affair!
