THREE LINES A VAILABLE
C. E. Widmayer '30

Coach Gill has adopted the plan of using his forward lines as units, and three combinations are being developed. The second trio includes Hafey Arthur and "Red" Riley, wings, and Rollie Morton, center; while the third line is made up of Don Crowther and Jim Walter, wings, and Bob MacPherson, center. Vincent Fitzpatrick and Al Butler are the leading reserves at defense, while Bob Neill and Bill Pounder are available to back up Captain McHugh at goal. The second line lacks something of the speed and finesse of the first trio, but it packs a sturdier offensive punch and keeps things humming when it is on the ice. Powers, Spain, and Guibord are all light men, but they are fast skaters and are quick to dart through the least opening.

The Green hockey team first took to the ice on December 11, after preliminary conditioning drills, and just two days later scored its first victory over the St. Johnsbury Tigers, 7 to o. Individual brilliance accounted for most of the goals, and the Indians' passing left much to be desired, but in view of all its handicaps Coach Gill's sextet made an auspicious debut. Spain and Arthur led the scoring with two goals each, while Powers, Guibord, and Bennett each tallied once.

I he second contest of the season, against St. Anselms, brought out better coordination and faster skating, and the Indians routed their visitors, 11 to 3. Guibord and Spain shared honors for the afternoon, the former netting three of the Green goals and aiding in another, and the latter scoring just once but being on the passing end of three tallying plays. Coach Gill used a full squad against St. Anselms, and uncovered valuable reserve wings in Crowther and Walters, the latter a Canadian boy. A capacity crowd was on hand for the Saturday afternoon contest, attesting to the revived enthusiasm for the ice sport.

Dartmouth's third game, with the Concord Hockey Club, was a real test, and the 3-1 victory was a creditable showing. The Concord club was headed by Doug Everett '26, former Dartmouth star, and Joe Guilfoy "30 also saw service during an evening of sparkling defensive play. Brilliant work by the Concord goalie kept the Green total down, and unusually strong defensive play by the ex-college stars contributed toward an exciting contest. Two of Dartmouth's tallies came as a result of smart passing plays by the Arthur-Morton and GuibordPowers combinations, and the third was scored by Riley unassisted in a grand melee in front of the Concord cage.

Coach Gill's present first-string team is an all-Massachusetts affair. Captain McHugh hails from Melrose, Spain from Waban, Powers from Newton Highlands, Guibord from Melrose, Bennett from Newtonville, and Nissen from West Roxbury.
