MATRICULATING FROM Lowell where he had scooped up the honors in high school, Arthur Bradley Barnes presented an appearance very much like this snapshot when in 1904 he hastened across the Hanover Plain pursuing knowledge, eluding sophomores.

Naturally, the snapshot being taken in the far-off era when people hadn't yet checked on the San Juan Hill battle, the renowned Theodore Roosevelt (Sire), was in the ascendant. Also, just as naturally, it didn't take the sophomores, and others, long to see the likeness between Arthur Bradley Barnes and the revered "T. R." So Arthur Bradley 8., became "Teddy" and the name stuck. "Teddy" Barnes stuck, also. He is, and has been, for years, treasurer of the Class of 1908. Here is a report on "Teddy" as furnished by Laurence M. Symmes: "Arthur Barnes, the big Fall River mill operator, dropped in to see me. He says business is bad, but I note he has the habit of coming out on top, being rated as one of the best mill men in the country. One of his daughters is studying art in a serious way and the rest of his family is all in order, according to report." LARRY GRISWOLD '08.
