WE CAN'T BELIEVE IT

So much for intellectual maturing. An even more surprising phenomenon has come to full bloom over the past yearhouse-party regulation. Following an un- successfully controlled Fall House Party, Paleopitus assumed responsibility for Carnival, and received sufficient cooperation from undergraduates in general to run a quiet party. And now comes the question of reviving Spring Parties, May 4-6.

Knowing—or thinking one knew—Dartmouth men would lead to the belief that a chance at Spring Parties would be snapped up in the familiar famished-wolf fashion. This belief would be wrong. The Palaeopitus plan calls for individual fraternity responsibility, and quite a few of the houses do not want to take it. They feel that the College, for reasons obviously beyond its control, has already received too much unfortunate publicity this year for them to chance adding to it. This is so far removed from "college boy" reasoning as to cause rejoicing in high places.

The majority of the houses will hold parties, however. We believe that they will probably be more orderly than any Dartmouth affairs in a long, long time. An interesting innovation is that the Green Key Prom this year will be held May 5, on which evening no dancing will be permitted in any fraternity house. This is perhaps the most definite step so far toward coordinating the social program of the College. And if Dartmouth luck turns for the better, perhaps even the freshmen will behave this time.
