Dartmouth's freshman football team, reputedly the strongest to wear the Green for many a season, reported to Sid Hazelton on September 19 and took its first opponent safely into camp just nine days later, when Clark School was defeated 19 to o In its second contest of the season, the Little Green defeated Dean Academy, 21 to 0, and displayed a greatly improved attack after two weeks' additional practice.
The Dartmouth freshmen gained almost at will through the light and inexperienced Clark eleven. Jim Allen, fullback from Tilton Academy, scored the opening touch-down on the first play following a blocked kick, and Os Linden, from New Hampton, contributed a second tally in the second quarter. The third touchdown was produced in the final period when Howard Pratt, halfback from Keene High School, raced down the field for the longest run of the game. Rain and slippery footing combined with lack of practice to keep the freshman total down.
In its second encounter, against Dean, the freshman eleven was paced by Gordon Clark, former Exeter star and brother of Bill Clark '35. Clark opened the scoring with a 30-yard dash around end, and was followed across the goal line later by Henry White, former Hingham High School star, and Walter Magee, from Montreal.
The Little Green is being captained this year by Clark, who gives promise of even surpassing the brilliant gridiron record of his brother Bill. With him in the backfield are White, quarterback; Allen, halfback; and Harrington Gates, former Clark School luminary, fullback. The first line at present contains Judson Foster (Wooster), left end; Jack Schrager (Parker School), left tackle; Gus Zitrides (Manchester Central High), left guard; Otis Mudge (Exeter), center; Linville Higgins (Servery), right guard; Loren Dilkes (Worcester), right tackle; and Joseph Batchelder (Peoria High), right end. Sid Hazelton is working at present with a squad of 56 players, including 11 ends, 10 tackles, 9 guards, 5 centers, and 21 backs.
