Paul Reed, Armour & Co.'s representative in Chicago, New York, and way stations, was in Boston late last month. He booked passage, starting December 28, for Bermuda, through the Furness-Bermuda Lines, of which our Dick Holden is New England passenger agent Ted Geisel is reported to be in the throes of producing a play on Broadway.

Christmas cards came in from far and wide—Dick and Peg Gratz sent one from Duluth, where the newspapers say it's 40° below zero, while we are basking in 35° above, here in old New England—Andy Edson's foreign-looking card arrived from Manchuria the day after Christmas and after commenting on its unusual design someone turned it over to inform us that the small type printing said "Made inU.S.A."—Gam Rogers' was unique, consisting of a regular one-cent-stamped business postcard, on the reverse side of which was a sketch, in green, of his very pretty home, "Four Winds," on the lake at Winter Park, Fla.—Chaunce Hawley's card from Wilkinsburg, Pa., was a photograph of his two beautiful children sitting by a lighted fire in their living room fireplace, eagerly watching their Christmas stockings. The most imposing card we received was a very

lovely etching of the Governor Bradford house in Bristol, R. 1., from Pete Haffenreffer's mother and father. Bill Sleigh's contribution was a pen and ink sketch of two gentlemen—at least, the arms of two gentlemen—toasting each other in very sizable steins of beer, one stein being composed of the words "Very Merry Christmas" and the other of "Bill Sleigh," and over each a most realistic foam was contrived of the scroll "Here's your Health" and "A Happy NewYear,"—truly a most effective addition to the world of art and Christmas greetings.

We heard from Al Manning in Schenectady; he is married, and has a daughter three years old. His business is publishing city directories for various municipalities in New York state Lang Spring is engaged, on the side, in amateur play producing and has become very adept at lowering the curtain too soon, etc Bob Bingham is attorney for the Social Security Board, address, Labor Building, Washington, D. C Bob Canfield has been traveling over a good part of the country, representing manufacturers' groups working towards revision of the processing tax. .... Joe Leavitt, still with R. H. Stearns Co., Boston's exclusive department store, as head of the toy, luggage, and electric supplies departments, recently pulled a coup. Sensing the popularity of the new game "Monopoly," he bought a tremendous reserve stock, and the demand was so great that his was practically the only store in Boston that had the game to sell for a week before Christmas Mr. and Mrs. David Perry Smith of Atlantic Highlands, N. J., recently announced the engagement of their daughter, Haven Belle Smith, to one Edgar Bond Blake Barrett Lyons is administrator for the Cheboygan County Welfare Relief Committee in Michigan Eddie Roessler is with General Electric in New Jersey and is living at 202 Vreeland Ave., Nutley Ed Torbert is a geographer for the Tennessee Valley Authority, and is living at 101 Gertrude St., Knoxville Paul Jerman is described as a newspaperman's secretary and can be located at 705 West 7th St., Plainfield, N. J After serving four years on the board, Stan Smith recently rounded out two years as president of the Rockford (Ill.) Country Club. Under his guiding genius the club built a swimming pool last year, which proved to be quite an undertaking, but worth while.

Next month's outlook for news is very barren. Please send along any items about yourself or others of the gang that make for news.

We close with excerpts from a letter from Red Martin, who is now hastening to give HIS ideas of that hysterical historical trip to Germany last summer with "Drs." Sleigh and Whitey:

"There has been called to my attentionrecently an article appearing in the December issue of the DARTMOUTH ALUMNI MAGAZINE, written by one Doctor Sleigh, whowith characteristic modesty, sets himself upas an authority on European travel, particularly travel in Germany As onewho has traveled with the Doctor manytimes .... and who .... with HerrLew White .... was privileged to contribute toward the perfection of the Doc-tor Sleigh Travel System, I feel a wordabout the good Doctor, his organization, his position in the field of travel, and someof the things he stands for (and some ofthe things he won't stand for) may not beamiss The Doctor believes in conceiving tours that are different; in gettingoff the beaten track if it kills him—and itdamn near does more than once. For instance., during this past summer's junket toGermany, the Doctor got us far off thebeaten track, through no fault of his, butdue entirely to the stupidity of an Austriancustoms official, who, for some reason neverclear, refused to allow the Doctor to conduct his tour across the Austrian borderwithout Austrian visas. Finally, said official, pretending acquiescence to the Doctor's demands, in order to shut off the tatter's inexhaustible flow of rich German invective, directed the touring party, with diabolicalcunning, along an alternate route whichled through miles of rocky Alpine cowpastures. If you believe that to be commonplace, go to Germany and see howmany others you find bicycling in the cowpastures atop the Bavarian Alps. This program is recommended as a successful meansof breaking the monotony of the old tripleplay cathedral-to-castle-to-museum sponsored by less progressive tourist agencies.Doctor S. believes that the promotion ofgood feeling between tourists and thosetouristed does much to close the gaps madeby language difference. Witness: during thefamous Bavarian bicycle trip, the Doctor, pedaling furiously to reach shelter before an impending thunderstorm broke, swooped down on a little town, and suddenly leaving the seat of his trusty bicycle, soared through the air and made a beautiful three-point landing—on, both knees andhis chin—at the entrance to the town'sleading open-air cafe. This feat broughtcheers and applause from the noondaygathering, and the good doctor, pickinghimself up and acknowledging the handclaps with a bow, did much to further international good will when he ordered beerfor the crowd. .... As to the internalorganization of Dr. Sleigh's travel bureau,Herr Lyn White, who was responsible forthe Dr. catching most of the right trains inGermany, has been placed in completecharge of the railroad department. Duringthe past summer, Herr White made an intensive on-the-ground survey of the German railroad system, from train toilets totimetables. He reached a high point in hissummer research when he staggered up tothe information window at the Berlin station and asked what time the 12:04 boattrain left. Herr White will also head thetrading department, unique among travelagencies. His experiences this past summerin swapping his own suit coat for a Bavarian jacket and his almost-success in puttingthrough a similar deal for a pair of leatherBavarian shorts for his own pants, gainedfor him a knowledge of native preferencesin bargaining which the average touristshould find of great value Supervision of the steamship department, with itsperplexing problems as to best dining roomtable sittings, the proper number ofstewards to have at your command, how tofind a fourth for bath, and a hundred othernice little problems will henceforth bevested in your humble correspondent-RED MARTIN."
