FOR THE SECOND successive year the Washington alumni entertained the Dartmouth Musical Clubs successfully at the Hotel Washington Large crowd of appreciative listeners Don Cobleigh has produced another fine club and one with an unusual repertoire and much versatility, in the opinion of this critic. . . . . Distinguished list of patronesses, headed by Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, and including Mrs. Fred H. Brown, wife of Dartmouth's own Senator, Mrs. Henry Styles Bridges, wife of our honorary Senator, and Mrs. Arthur H. Vandenburg.. . . On Saturday, April 3, many local alumni wandered out to College Park, Maryland, to see the dual track meet with the University of Maryland, which was won by Dartmouth 89 to 37, Maryland taking firsts only in the quarter-mile and jjjg javelin throw, which is the great Guckeyson's specialty The team appeared in wonderful condition, Beardsley in the two-mile race starting and finishing as if he could sprint all day This victory helps us in the eyes of local sports followers, who used to rub it in when Maryland habitually beat Yale in football while we habitually lost Our annual formal dinner will be held at the swank Chevy Chase Club, April 23, with Professor Leon B. Richardson as speaker This event will end a very active year by our Association, although we may break down and have another outdoor party The distracting cherry blossoms are the chief motif of Washington as we write these notes If any alumni come to the Capital they are invited to visit us on Tuesdays at the Harrington Hotel, for lunch A new- comer to our group is Commander Ernest G. Small, U. S. Navy, now stationed here, and a member of the class of 1910, brought in by our active member, Herb Woods, of that class In closing, a word of tribute to Winston Hobbs '33, chairman of the Musical Clubs Concert Committee, and his committee, D. E. McCoy '18, N. P. Worthington, Dick Lyon, Larry Reeves all '33, and Barry Sullivan '36 A fine committee and they did a fine job. . . . . This secretary takes pleasure in picking familiar names out of notes of alumni associations of other cities, and hopes everybody will tell us more about individual members.
