THE EDITOR of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE has been very liberal in printing these notes, so here we are again .... temperature in Washington as I write 77 degrees, so Washington alumni have called off the winter jaunt to Bermuda, Nassau and Florida, if any .... no talk of ski trains .... our Christmas luncheon for the undergraduates home for the holidays a big success .... big crowd and plenty of enthusiasm Washington has a fine bunch of boys at Hanover Bernie Harter, chief sports writer of the Washington Herald, and Vosburg of the Post attended with staff photographers. .... Joe Kiernan, fullback, Paleopitus leader, baseball player and singer, reviewed the football season, but don't quote me Ken Herschel, of the Chevy Chase Herschels, assistant basketball manager, talked over the b.b. prospects Hileary Hoskinson and Victor Whitlock Jr., spoke for the sophs. .... Whitlock's father was and his brother is, at Princeton Smiling Bill Shelton, freshman end, expressed hopes for next year Parks, soph guard on the second team, said nothing, but watch him next fall Kiernan, Parks, Shelton, had their pictures taken for the Herald, with Ben Burch '32, famous basketeer and Cal Milans '33, noted timber topper in his undergrad days, with Wilson, president of the club, for comic relief .... great to hear these boys praise for the coaching staff .... Blaik, Ellinger, Gustafson and Dr. Donchess certainly sold themselves to Dartmouth .... tough to lose Donchess before we got to know him personally but watch his work in blocking nerve centers and interfering with peritonitis in the Gary Hospital .... our monthly dinners usually held on first Fridays, postponed to Jan. 8 on account of New Year's Day .... the piece de resistance a talking movie of forest fire prevention by the Forestry Service, with shots of some fires they didn't prevent, personally conducted by Parkinson 'OB, with Major Redington 'OO and Hasting '04 cooperating .... the Major a second generation of Dartmouth .... Hastings' father was a Professor of English and he has a son to enter soon Paul Jewett, the sea-going yachtsman, and Estabrook, Kresge merchandiser, holding a '28 reunion, but snowed under by '29, with Schuh, Arliss, Russell and Barto Paul Leach '32, discoursing on the cost of high living Buck Freeman '13, genial librarian of the Railway Economics Association, with his microscopic memory .... next month we hope to have Director King of the Bureau of Lighthouses, an alumnus we don't see enough of ... . what a story he should have of the service. .... Roger Evans '16, big shot in the Social Security, too busy to get around, but all who know Roger say nothing but stern necessity could keep him away from Dartmouth meetings Chippy Semmes '13, "D" winner in pole-vault, recipient of war decoration, and now patent attorney and gentleman farmer, offers us his Maryland retreat for an old-fashioned Dartmouth party of the sweatshirt era .... committee now working on the stirring details .... if any snow, Chippy will furnish sleighs and horses .... some of our bunch traveled to Philadelphia to see Dartmouth play Penn, basketball .... Warren Kendall '99, assisted by Wilson '16, McCoy '18, Barto '29 and Worthington '34 entertained four promising candidates for admission at the University Club Dick Lyon '35 and Cooper Rhodes '25 drop in when not too busy, can't remember their classes, valued members of our club .... when you make that trip to the Capitol for Inaugurations of business, drop into the Harrington Hotel at 12:30 on Tuesdays and get a snatch of Hanover atmosphere
