OUR ANNUAL ALUMNI dinner was a big success, with about 150 present. The event was held at the Carlton Hotel (assistant manager Montford of Dartmouth) where after destroying some rare roast beef, we listened to three fine talks, by Roswell F. Magill '16, undersecretary of the treasury, Sid Hayward and President Hopkins. The dinner drew out a number of alumni that we haven't seen for a long, long time.

A second Sunday party, similar to the one held last year, was staged at Freres Farm, with the genial Chippy Semmes '13 as our host, along with Mrs. Semmes and the four sons in assorted sizes. This idea of Chippy's to entertain us occurred to him last spring, and a fairly large party turned out for it. This year the crowd was even larger, the food even more varied and tempting and the beer more spirited, or so it seemed. The boys brought their wives and gal friends with them, and we did a lot of singing, with Mrs. Semmes at the organ. If he doesn't watch out, Chippy is going to have a tradition on his hands he can't break.

Larry Pope '18, as predicted exclusively in this column, was married to Mary, of Portland, Oregon and while his guests were too busy eating to keep an eye on him, sped away in his car with his bride for a trip into the budding South.

The bowling team has been going strong of recent weeks, and although this correspondent wouldn't swear to it at the moment, believes the team is still somewhere near the top of the bowling league.

We had hoped to get a glimpse of the varsity baseball team, but rain washed out the game scheduled with Georgetown.

Seen at the annual dinner of the Junior Board of Commerce of Washington were Percy Russell, Dick Lyon and Harry Jewett, reported by Stirling Wilson, our roving reporter (when his wife is out of town).

Ken Anderson, assistant to Assistant Secretary of Commerce Draper, is due to shift over with his boss, who was recently appointed to the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. We don't see much of Ken at Dartmouth events.

Taylor Papson '14. was at the dinner with a good alibi for not having been at Dartmouth Night.

Glancing over the alumni notes of other classes and other cities in the ALUMNI MAG, we occasionally see that So-and-So has been to Washington as a delegate of the Misinterpreted Order of Hinterland Sojourners, or conferring with the chief of the bureau of Disintegrated Science, but none of them ever think of looking us up. Here's our invitation again, to all Dartmouth men who come to the Capital (as who does not?)—if it is Tuesday, drop into the Annapolis Hotel at 12:30 and join us. If it's not Tuesday, take time anyway to ring Barto at the Telephone Company, Metropolitan 9900, and let us know you have been in town.
