TWAS the night before New Year's Eve. The sign out front read, "Standing Room Only." The place was the University Club. And the setting was our Annual Football Jam-Session. Some 120 Dartmouths had gathered to hear President Crouter '24 call for words of wisdom from all-too-modest captain Merrill Davis '38, All Eastern End, of Bradford, Pa.; and then in turn on Lou Young Jr., '41, Philadelphia's freshman captain; Colby Howe '39, Philadelphia's scintillating back on the 1937 team; Lou Young, senior, former University of Pennsylvania Head Coach; and Bob Hall, Yale, quarterback on Albie Booth's famous outfits, varsity coach, and during the last two years radio announcer for all Yale games. Then followed the first official showing of three reels of the complete Dartmouth 1937 football highlights, with Bob Hall as lecturer and interpolator, and finally two M-G-M reels of national 1937 football highlights. To everyone present, alumni, undergraduates, and prospective freshmen, there was obvious pleasure and satisfaction in honoring in person these men from Philadelphia and Pennsylvania, who have contributed in such large measure to Dartmouth's 1937 football success.
