With several hundred cards being returned from many of you out there and with what might be called "normal" correspondence, I expected to start the New Year with a backlog of news to pass along, but instead I have as little "new" news as I've had since I took on this job. Can't you say more than "yes," "No," or "maybe" when you next send in a card about reunion, or the Fund drive, or just drop me a card special?
The College Alumni Officers list just out contains a number of '36 names including Bill Stimson for Region VI of the Alumni Council; PaulGuibord as vice president of the Association of Bequest and Estate Planning Chairmen; RayReitman on the executive committee of the General Association of Alumni; Bob Morris, president of the Dartmouth Club of Southern California; John Sullivan, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Merrimack Valley; Al Momenee, Job Placement Chairman of the Detroit Club; Harry Coronis, the same job for the Nashua, N.H. Club; Dick Heffler, secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Western Oklahoma; Bob Morris again as enrollment director for District No. 900 Los Angeles; plus the class officers. They should all be congratulated for their extra efforts on the part of the College.
I have been stressing "It's later than you think" in trying to encourage you to join in on our 40th and perhaps you noticed in the club news of the December issue that Paul and EasyGuibord won two awards at the November meeting of the Southern Tier Alumni Club in Ithaca, N.Y. They not only traveled farthest for the meeting but represented the "OLDEST" class there. If this isn't enough to convince you, John Wiesman was rushing through his reception room on his way to lunch the other day and paused to answer questions from a woman who was befuddling the receptionist. Later, the same woman called in for more information through the switchboard and asked for that nice, "elderly" gentleman! Now, in case you're concerned about being "old" or "elderly" and perhaps having attendant health problems in June, don't worry because in addition to all the Mary Hitchcock facilities we presently have the following Class M.D.s planning to attend - Curtis, Ingersoll, Lando, Lehman, Ovitz, Robertson, Stimson, Barker, Carson, Gait,Hyde, McLaughlin, Page, Roberts, and Thompson. I'm sure there will be more and I may have missed some.
Among others who have indicated they expect to attend are Lin Bettison, who's retired in Florida and says he's forgotten what Dartmouth looks like; Wally Dittmar who practices dentistry in Chicago; Bill Gibson, who, when last heard from had retired from the Foreign Service and was studying for his Ph.D. at American University in Washington. Bob and CarmelitaBullock are "probable" attendees from San Francisco where they now live. They spent 30 years in the suburbs in Mill Valley but when their children were gone into the "cold, cold" world, they moved back into the city. Another indication of those planning to attend can be found on the letter you each received from the 40th Reunion Giving Program letter of November 24. Of the 26 names on the committee, only six have not yet indicated the possibility of their coming in June, so from all these names here in these columns, in Tithe, and in the Reunion Committee mailings you should find lots of old friends who will be there.
You have received the mailings indicating the events scheduled by the Class in June but you may be interested in some other items of special interest in Hanover at that time. Perhaps they may have special interest for you personally.
