Nine sons of 1910 are in the freshman class at Dartmouth this fall to maintain the all-time College record that Tenners have been building for some years. .. .one more than last year when eight entered ... .a grand total of 81 sons to date, far outstripping our nearest competitor among the classes.... it's a record anyone can be proud of for many years to come.

It is good to see the son of Harry Driver become a Dartmouth man.... the lad was named after Ted Steward, carries the nickname Ted, and according to Karl Maerker who has followed him closely since Harry's death, is a very fine boy with considerable promise, scholastically and otherwise.... all of the other names are very familiar, and it is safe to predict that the fathers are going to see more of Hanover than since their own College days, and get a heck of a lot of fun doing it.
The Waterbury American carried a picture of George Gonyer recently.... George is doing a good job as manager of the Waterbury A.A.A. office The Gay Gleasons summered at Squam Lake.
You can make the life of Ralph Paine considerably easier this fall by paying your Class dues promptly As Guy Carpenter, The Red-Head, says, "It's Painless to Pay Paine."
It is a terrible shock to learn of the tragic death of "Pip" Cowan on August 27... . from our first fall in College when he captained the Freshman football team he made friends easily and we 11.... his was a personality that attracted. .. .hail and well met, fun-loving and possessed with humor, "Pip" was one of the most like- able men in our Class....his passing at this time is particularly pathetic for he was to follow with unusual interest the Dartmouth football team that is managed by his son Jack this fall. . . .however, that is life, and "Pip" Cowan would not have it otherwise, always having been a man to accept what was for him to accept, without fear or hesitation.. . .such a man leaves indelible memories.
Eck Hiestand who is recognized as a merchandising executive of real talent, has moved to Los Angeles where he will be manager of a new Sears, Roebuck store that will open around November 1 at Pico and West Boulevards Eck went from Atlanta to Tulsa when Sears acquired the buildings and assets of the HalliburtonAbbott store, and has done such a fine job that he has been transferred to the more important position in Los Angeles ....thus, another Tenner continues onward and upward.

The Art Bucknams vacationed all over northern New England, and in mid-September drove to Hanover to enter Art Jr. as a freshman.... Art who principals the Walsh School in Waterbury, Conn., writes, "Hanover sure looked good to me, and I hated to leave. In all probability I shall be a more frequent visitor there during the next four years than I have been in the past."
We ran across Norton Cushman in HanOver the other day, the old Brighton High School red-head having brought son Franklin up for College.... Cush is a highly successful life insurance man, ranking high with the Equitable.
Also ran across Ernest Studley recently .... and if fellows have forgotten the music of real, old-line Yankee twang, you'd enjoy a visit with this New Englander who had the courage to spend his life in the town where he was born and raised. .. .Stud's nasal speech is something to admire especially since it has remained undiluted through the practice of law.
Jack Dingle has resigned as general agent for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Cos. in Chicago Jack completed 23 years with the Massachusetts Mutual last January. Following three years as a personal producer, he formed the Bokum and Dingle Agency with the late Norris Bokum which continued for 18 years. There is one thing about this Sid Whipple fellow. .. .he probably gets his picture in the paper more frequently than his old Lowell, Mass. playmates ever thought he would. .. .every time you pick up the New York World-Telegram, wherever you are, you see a double column head "THEATER" with a stern-faced Whipple looking across your right shoulder.... this goes on 6 days per week the year round.... no man ought to be pictured more.
Marshall Comstock's daughter Barbara won the highest honors in the graduating class of 161 at Radcliffe. .. .she took her degree, magna cum laude, with specialization in English. .. .Barbara's picture in the Boston papers showed her to be a very pretty girl whom the weight of academic success has not burdened down too heavily.

It is understood in the inner New Hampshire real estate circles that one James Richard Everett, once of Framingham, Belmont, Boston and Ireland, bought himself and family a miniature castle and grounds in Nashua for a mere pittance of its cost....with land enough for a golf course, potatoe patch, his wife, and five children. .. .after the children are educated, Jim'll probably retire and get some N. H. goats.
According to Harlan Pearson, New Hampshire's best known newspaper man, dean of them all, and one-time secretary of '93, the first Dartmouth professor to smoke cigarettes in public was Freddie Emery, our old English teacher. Freddie always rated very high with 1910, and his death some years ago was sort of a personal tragedy to many in the Class.
Harry Sandberg visited in Hanover during the summer. .. .as did Otto Taylor.
"Easty" took up golf this summer shortly after moving to Minneapolis, and one Sunday in August played with Colonel Little 'Bl, Red Loudon 'l4, Gene Leonard '2l. .. .believe it or not, Colonel Little shot a 44 for the first 9, and a 96 for the 18. .. .even "Easty" won't be able to approach those figures when he reaches the age of 82.
Young Art Allen is heading for Dartmouth a year from this fall.
There are times when a class secretary has to possess resourcefulness that approaches mystic quality.... any class with over 300 members should be a fertile field for news items. .. .either the group is miserably exploited, or it is moving along in class affairs with an ease that might prove deceptive. .. .your secretary's resourcefulness is exhausted; Scott Perry's mystic qualities are in South America.... so it's either you lads shake the rheumatism from your joints and pen in some legible notes or this space will be as blank as the late Heinie Hyde's face was when Johnny K., inconsiderately, aroused him from a nap to read a troublesome page of Latin.
