THOSE 600 DARTMOUTH MEN, their wives, "friends," and others outside the circle who attended the Springtime Carnival on Saturday, May 13 at the Drake Hotel, Chicago, unanimously reported it a huge success. Unable to have the Glee Club in Chicago this year, the entertainment committee, composed of Bob Critchell '33, Gene Hotchkiss '22, and Pete Callaway '30, chose to rally the local alumni to a dance for the benefit of the Chicago Dartmouth Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. Although the accounts haven't yet been audited, unofficial reports indicate high returns.
There was continuous activity throughout the evening—dancing to the Colonial Club orchestra, an official floor show, private dance analysis by professionals, and an unofficial "jitter-bug" exhibition late in the evening by some of the younger generation who apparently hailed from a place less formal than the Drake ballroom. Among celebrities present was Gertrude Lawrence, currently playing here.
The Dartmouth sponsors did a good job distributing tickets for their party as we noticed many representatives of Yale, Princeton and other colleges who were helping, wittingly or not, the cause of the Scholarship Fund. To the entertainment committee, and to Drew Dudley '33, Hank Embree '30, John Goodwillie '31, Bill Juergens '23, Chick Obermeyer '23, and John Sheldon '32, go the Association's thanks for a fine party.
To those who are out of touch with Chicago affairs, let it be said that the Association has a daily luncheon table at Henrici's Restaurant to which all are welcome. In addition, a monthly luncheon is held the second Wednesday of each month at the University Club.
