SATURDAY AFTERNOON, OCTOBER 19, sixteen members of the Houston group, together with the wives and children of several, enjoyed the hospitality of Ray and Bonnie Smith at their country home, Tall Timbers Lodge. The short wave radio broadcast of the Yale game came in perfectly and while the last minute ending was disappointing in its result, it was in the best Dartmouth-Yale tradition and revived memories of last minute thrills of former games. Between the halves, a barbecue lunch of beef, lamb, and elk, this latter shot by Ray in the wilds of New Mexico, fortified us for the disastrous finale of the game. After Ellis Gilbert ran out of songs the party broke up with thanks to Ray and Bonnie for the opportunity of a most enjoyable and successful gettogether.
Thursday afternoon, November 7, eight golfing members of the club, including Krogstad, Sanders, Taylor, Smith, Walker, Maguire, Head, and Edson gathered at the number one tee of the Memorial Park course for our first annual tournament, sanders with a low gross of 84 was awarded the Green Jug," official emblem of the Dartmouth Houston Alumni Champion name will be the first to adorn Le troPhy- Ray Smith was low net with a while Paul Maguire, for winning the hi bogey, received back two balls in Place of the four he left in various water holes along the way. May it be added he as not alone in this respect. After the game we all adjourned to talk it over at the River Oaks Country Club and between food and drinks fought the course over again. There still seems to be some doubt as to the respective talents of our golfers, numerous alibis having been heard, so we plan in the near future another chance for those of us who were "off our game." Sanders, however, has no need for worry until next year for according to the rules the "Green Jug" is his until our next annual tournament.
