Now AND THEN we pause in writing about the present and past of Dartmouth and look ahead to the future. In many ways it is unpredictable but here's a youngster whose purpose is to carry a sheepskin away from Hanover Plain in the early '50's. He's ten years old and in the fifth grade where he gets almost all A's except deportment. He knows now the feel of steel edges biting wind-packed snow. He swims and dives with the easy nonchalance of the expert. He can drive the family car and boat. Later he will read Great Books, and his mind will broaden, his imagination quicken, through impacts of friends and teachers. Right now his chief concern is when will school be out for the summer vacation. He is one of thousands of boys all over the nation, busy with the business of growing up, who are to be the Dartmouth men of tomorrow. This is one sure thing in the midst of many uncertainties.
