BABY-HATER STAN JONES (not all Babes) —GETS LEAD IN JANUARY "ESQUIRE"—"BabieS aren't pretty—their habits are terriblethey change perfectly decent people into fatuous pains in the neck. .. .the habits of babies are definitely bad, and don't think you can crowd me off by telling me that I was a baby once myself, and probably just as bad, or worse, I admit I would have disliked myself just as much as the next one I see I've seen a baby returning the most exquisite gush of a beautiful and talented actress with a yawn and a rousing belch which tore the feathers off the gusher's hat.... many a sound man becomes a fatuous, drooling zany under the impact of paternity. . . .finally, if you shake your fist in my face and scream 'if you were married and happy and had children, you would never talk in so sacrilegious a way!'—This is a fair accusation and I accept it with bowed head. My only response to it is this—l'm married and I have children" (we know of one, Stanley)—"and I am as reasonably happy in my home as any man I know. But babies still leave me cold!"

808 FISH FEARFUL OF BECOMING MURRAYHILL PRETZEL—a letter from Tucson, Arizona, "I'd be simply nuts carrying on now with the Alumni Fund. Next few weeks will tell if I am able to lick arthritis or if that lousy ailment will succeed in tieing me up like a Murray Hill pretzel—under the circumstances, I feel your Ex. 'Looking Back'—this issue polished up the memories of part of the one year I was fortunate to spend at 31 Wheeler. It is very pleasant to be made to feel a real 'iBer even though I was unable to finish my course at Dartmouth. I'm still handling our 6100's in fast freight to Montreal. The war has increased the traffic a great deal. Three of my 'huskies' are playing good basketball this winter. Two of them are getting in line to harvest some more hockey silverware. Put a little spare time in labor activities and wish you to realize that the C. N. R. and its employees handle their controversies with a sense of fairness and honesty that might well be copied elsewhere. DICK WHITE REJOICES TO 808 FISH OVER "The Record" "I have 'read the record' and do properly rejoice with you in the record made by 1918 in the Al. Fund. I think all the credit for this great showing is due to you and I want you to know here is one member who so considers. It is true others assisted you as you graciously acknowledge. However it took a real leader with vision and organizing ability to put '18 where it rightly belongs." Let's all respond to Bob Fish's appeal—let's help Red Wilson do the work.
