I suppose that everyone has someone unique indication that Fall has arrived. Football news, World Series, youngsters back in school and frost on the pumpkin are fairly universal, but my major sign is the resumption of writing the class notes. It would seem that a layoff of four months ought to make the first group easy and find me with plenty of dope on hand. However, this never seems to be the case, so the October notes will be sort of a warm-up for me and a reminder for you to send any and all material you've gathered since last May.

With two Green football victories under the w.k. belt by the time this is read any comment as far back as June may seem like last week's newspaper, but a week-end in Hanover is an occasion not easily forgotten. The usual '20 group met in Hanover in June to help '21 put over their reunion. For a younger group they really did real well, with the able assistance of the McGoughrans, Baketels, Elliotts, Freys, Lappins and myself. For the first time in years Ed Bowen was unable to be present. I think it was his first miss since our fifth reunion.

It was a real shock to hear that Rog Horton's seven-year-old daughter Barbara was killed by an automobile on June 17. Our most sincere sympathy is extended to the Hortons.

Congratulations to Al Frey, his committee, and especially to the members of the Class for the wonderful showing made in the Alumni Fund campaign. We've certainly set a real goal for ourselves. And, speaking of things financial, you will be pleased to learn that Stan Newcomer has graciously accepted the leadership of our 25th Reunion Memorial Fund campaign. This means a real sacrifice for Stan as he is exceptionally busy these days. Let's all cooperate with him 100% and help lighten the load that such a job entails.

Last Spring Roy Rubel and an associate, Leonard Marshall, bought the newspaper advertising business of John B. Woodward, Inc. Both of the new owners have been in the organization for over 20 years. Mr. Marshall remains in New York while Roy moved to the Chicago office carrying the title of vice president and western manager.

Paul Richter reports meeting Pike Emory in Boston the early part of the summer. Pike is on a year's sabbatical leave from the Bishop Museum and the University of Hawaii. The year was very well spent as Pike is studying for a doctorate at Yale. He expected to return to Hawaii in September.

I don't imagine that many of us have the occasion to read the University of New Hampshire's Granite State Forester, but if it is available look for Vol. 2 No. 1 (1941) and read the article titled, "Conditions in the Pulpwood Industry in New Hamp- shire." The author is Sherm Adams.

On a recent trip to California, Jim Chilcott saw Zack Jordan. He reports the old apple the same pepper pot.

Maybe some of you have noticed a new address at the head of this column. After 13 years of staff work I am now learning what makes things tick in the field. Since June I've been located in Amsterdam as manager of the New York Telephone Company's office. I am still living on my farm outside of Elsmere, N. Y. as the housing condition in Amsterdam is very acute. The only other Twenty in town is Dutch Wilkie who, fortunately for me, is located in the same building.

Two defense notes: Jake Gorton and Al Lake are in the U. S. Navy Air Force and both located in Jacksonville, Fla. Jake is a Lt. Commander and Al a Lieutenant.
