FINAL ENROLLMENT FIGURES for 1941-42 show a surprising shrinkage of only 15 men or .006 per cent from Dartmouth's total of 3,441 last year. The loss of 80 seniors and juniors largely to the armed forces and other defense activities is nearly offset by a jump of 67 in the sophomore and freshman classes.
Although the entering class of 723 is the largest in Dartmouth's history, it exceeds the previous record by only 16 men and is but 24 higher than last year. The sophomore class of 638 is 43 ahead of last year's second-year group and is mainly responsible for the unexpectedly slight shrinkage. The senior class numbers 475 this fall, compared to 530 last year, and the junior class numbers 506, compared to 531.
Medical School enrollment of 46 is up five, while Thayer School enrollment of 30 is up nine, and Tuck School enrollment of 114 is down 20. Thirteen are enrolled in the joint Tuck-Thayer course compared with two last year, and graduate and unclassified students number 16, compared with ten last year.
