MORRILL ALLEN GALLAGHER Memorial Scholarships were awarded this fall to Sidney Howard Bull '42, of Lexington, Mass., and Charles Milton Pearson '42, of Madison, Minn. Valued at $600 each, the Gallagher Scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduates with Rhodes Scholar qualifications.

The recipients of the three Justin H. Smith Fund Scholarships which are for $500 each, were Jeremy Blanchet '43, of Trudeau, N. Y., Walter Russell Daggatt '43, of Portland, Ore., and Malcolm McLoud '44, of Scarsdale, N. Y. These scholarships, based upon a fund established by bequest of Justin H. Smith '77, historian and former member of the faculty, are awarded annually to students "distinguished for proficiency in studies, sound morals and physical health."

Regional scholarships were announced as follows:

William Pierce Johnson Fund Scholarships of $700 each open to applicants from California, to James Cameron Eckels of South Pasadena and John Campbell Loper of Berkeley. These scholarships are based on a fund of $100,000 given by Mrs. William P. Johnson of San Francisco as a memorial to her husband, William Pierce Johnson, of the Class of 1880.

Charles F. Brooker Fund Scholarships for applicants from Connecticut have been awarded to Neale Knowles Lawson and Vincent Patrick Malahan of Torrington and to Thomas Joseph Murray of Bridgeport. Amounting to $600 each, they are based upon a fund of $133,520 given by bequest of Charles F. Brooker of Ansonia, Conn.

The second College Grant Fund Scholarships for applicants from New Hampshire were awarded to Elliot Winsor Burbank Jr. of Hanover and Robert Heath of Manchester. These scholarships of $500 each are based upon funds derived from timber cuttings on the Second College Grant, a tract of land in northeastern New Hampshire given to Dartmouth College by the State of New Hampshire in 1807.
