Faculty for Action

APPROVAL OF THE American Defense Dartmouth Group stand urging vigorous action to defeat Nazism was recorded by 191 members of the Dartmouth faculty in a poll conducted by the Defense Group late in October. Faculty support was overwhelming among the 202 members who answered the poll, only eleven of this number dissenting.

With this strong faculty backing, the Dartmouth Defense Group on October 29 sent the following wire to President Roosevelt:

"We urge you to stand firm against theargument of would-be appeasers, whetherself-deceived or deceitful. We believe thatthe time has come for the United States totake vigorous action for the destruction ofNazi tyranny. If this means entering thewar, then let us enter it."
