MARRIED. .. .Bucky Allen and Miss Katherine Barrett, formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, Univ. of Chicago graduate, director of Rivers Lower 5ch001.... the wedding occurred at new headquarters of Rivers Country Day School, Chestnut Hill, on August 20.
MORE TENNERS JOIN up. .. .Dixi Crosby has been called back into the Army... .it's now Capt. A. D. Crosby, Bth Bat., 3rd Reg., F.A.R.C., Fort Bragg, N. C as you would know, Dixi writes enthusiastically but with realism, "Am feeling 25 years younger. Strenuous life and they did turn the heat on this summer. .. .but I've enjoyed it all and am glad to be back in the Service and help finish the job we didn't do the last time."
Just received word that Dinny Pratt reported Sept. I as Captain in Adjutant General's Department.
OFFSPRING-ING. .. .Jack Tobin enrolled with Navy V-7, working with Crucible Steel while waiting to be called Jack Jenness, a counselor at Bucky Allen's Camp all summer, is back at Hanover, busy with Green Key and other extra-curricular activities Bill Holmes is in machine die and stamp work while awaiting his call
Jim Shattuck has been with Armour & Cos. in the Argentine for three years, has been sort of looked after by Scott Perry and family who have been awfully nice to him
Bill Bates won his numerals in Freshman Tennis at Hanover last spring Nancy Norton graduated and mopped up just about everything at Bryn Mawr before leaving, fourth in her class, Magna Cum Laude, distinction in History, American and Freshman English Prizes, one of six girls in her class to be awarded an athletic blazer, best tennis player in college, varsity basketball forward and divers other activities. .. .we all have seen Nancy grow up from a mere baby when she attended her first Reunion and football game, and rightfully take as much pride in her as Walter and Isabell... .and she's a swell youngster to boot.
Not to be outdone by the girls, Wilcomb Washburn who rounded out at Exeter last year stood in First Honors Group, won Hoar Prize for excellence in American History and First Prize for best written examination on Constitution of the U. S.
FRESHMEN at summer session in Hanover were Kimball Jones, son of Bones Rayner Johnson, Dave's third son to enter Dartmouth John Wolff, Herb's No. 3 boy Charlie Jackson. .. .we'll publish a complete list in next issue when the remaining Freshman sons will have enrolled in the fall term.
ENGAGED .... Mary Everett to Parker Ward of Boston who attended Dwight School, LeRosey, in Switzerland and Lehigh Barsha Powers to Lieut. Jack Shattuck, U.S.A., this being the first time that two Tenner families will be joined by marriage of their youngsters Slip, Ed and their families are getting quite a kick out of it....along with a few hundred other Tenner-ites.
PRESIDENT HOPKINS made one of his customary tenstrikes last spring when in one of his several addresses we heard, he pointed out that men of standing in their communities, men who are active in church, library, school, civic and various other public affairs, are the men who build democracies and the nation.... this impressed us greatly because we know dozens of Tenners and others who are doing a truly fine job in life though unheralded in national headlines. .. .such a man is our own Irving Scott who has spent a lifetime doing a good job in Boston educational work, and still has found time to be an all-round asset to his town of Sharon, Mass., where, in addition to various assignments, he has done a notable piece of work as president, organizer and strong supporter of the Sharon Fish & Game Club, a splendid 30-acre project with ponds, rearing pools, woodland, meadows, skeet field, clubhouse, reforestation, and what not... .
"Scotty" is one of those modest fellows you never hear much about. .. .until some friend spills the beans.
