Christmas and New Year's have come and gone and I herewith acknowledge many cards from classmates.
A note, written January ist, from Bowers brought the sad news of Mrs. Bowers' death December 16. We all sympathize with "Shorty."
A nice long letter from "Billy" Redenbaugh, under date of December 18, from Seattle, tells of defense activities there. One interesting statement is that in his school where there are 2000 pupils, 500 of them are Japs. He says, "In my photography class I have white boys and girls, Japs and Chinese all working in perfect accord." "Billy" expects to retire in June, after which he and Mrs. Redenbaugh plan to live at Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, up near the Canadian border where they have a bungalow on a beautiful waterfront. They hope to drive on to our 50th reunion in 1943. He says that their daughter is running a newspaper in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she has been located since the building of Boulder Dam, being the first woman on the job and operating the telephone exchange during the building of the Dam.
Woodbury writes interestingly, mentioning among other things the death of Walter Cox, our President's brother, and the fact that he knew him quite well. Says he went deer hunting up around North Weare, New Hampshire. "Didn't see a deer; alibi, no snow, hard tracking, woods noisy." "Tried to do some fishing, but Governor Blood closed the woods on me the day I arrived." Item: the day after his return the woods were opened again.
A recent letter from "Skid" advises that he has indirectly learned that "Billy" Mann is quite ill. Will have more details next month.
