AT A RECENT MEETING of the Trustees, approval was voted of our request to have our name changed from Thayer School of Civil Engineering to Thayer School of Engineering. The change involves no alteration of the curriculum. It was made in recognition of the restriction which has developed in the meaning of the word civil since General Thayer's day when it was used to differentiate civil engineering from military engineering. Since the first-year courses are basic to all branches of engineering, and since some of the courses offered to Tuck-Thayer students are not civil engineering courses as the term is now used, it has been felt that the name of the School no longer adequately defined its scope.
In keeping with the step taken by the College advancing the Commencement date to May 10, the Thayer School has set April 30 as the date for the awarding of C.E. degrees to the second-year class. A joint graduation ceremony with the Tuck School is planned for this date, which will include also the awarding of the first TuckThayer degrees, Master of Science in Business Administration and Engineering.
We have had word from the Alumni Records Office that A'. H. Ayers '07 is now located in Honolulu, Hawaii.
