Most of the news this month appears to concern not our classmates personally but members of their families. We could philosophize on that—but won't.

There are two proud and happy classmates in Lebanon the Sunday afternoon these notes are being written. Last night at the Intercollegiate 4-A meet in New York's Madison Square Garden, Don Burnham won the mile event in a photo finish from Frank Dixon, the leading miler of the indoor season. Don had run third to Dixon in the Hunter Mile at the Boston A.A. games, and had finished second in the Baxter Mile at the N.Y.A.C. games, behind Gil Dodds. We know that Doc Burnham and Roy Lewis were in Boston to watch Don run but if they were in New York for either of Don's performances, they failed to pull your correspondent's latch string.

Manvel Whittemore acquired a second Amherst son-in-law when, on February 2 ist, his daughter Mary was married to Charles D. McEvoy Jr., of South Barre, Mass., a graduate of Amherst and now a student at Johns Hopkins Medical School. The young couple will live in Baltimore, Md., until the groom goes into active service as a lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps. Man's other Amherst son-in-law, Richard W. Mirick, who married Margaret Whittemore last July, is a lieutenant in the Marine Corps. Manvel says, "I'm hoping that my third daughter will pick out a Dartmouth man." He is busy on the home front as chairman of the Westchester County War Council.

On January 27th, a daughter, named for her mother, was born to Elizabeth Erwin Johnson and Lt. James R. Johnson USA.

Al Smith hasn't seen or heard from a 12 man for so long out at Elkart, Ind., that he plans a trip to Washington to see some of the classmates in the Signal CorpsConnie Snow, Dick Plumer, Bob Belknap and Bill Baxter.

After a happy pastorate of eighteen and a half years at the Merrimac, Mass., Pilgrim Church, Harry Lowd assumed the pastorate of the Evangelical Congregational Church, Easton, Mass., on March 1. His new address is Depot Street, South Easton, Mass.

Ralph Baker became the grandfather of "I hope a future Dartmouth man" on February 8. Ralph writes that his address is not that reported here a couple of months ago but is 580 High Street, West Medford, Mass.

Connie Snow's official position now is Legal Director on the Executive Staff of the Chief Signal Officer. As he recently demonstrated to your correspondent, he really knows his way around the War Department's new Pentagon Building.

Sons .... and daughters in service. .... A recent issue of the "Bulletin" carried a letter from Jim Erwin Jr., a private in the Army on duty overseas, that could have been written by Big Jim himself. I am suggesting that members of the class write young Jim, whether personally acquainted with him or not—an opportunity to show our affection for Jim's memory.
