Two of the Christmas cards received by your Secretary carried greetings to the Class. From Alexandra Hedlund:
"The pleasant thoughts of our reunion still linger happily in my memory. "With a feeling of gratitude I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you and the Class for all their kindnesses to me."
Marion Knight wrote: "I am piping up with a greeting for 1912. I want you all to know that the highlight of the year 1947 was the treasured hours I spent with all of you at the 35th year reunion. I could never begin to tell you how much your thoughtfulness will always mean to me. The sense of loneliness was overshadowed by the knowledge that I was with Bug's favorite friends and that he would be pleased to know you were so good to me. May the pleasure and heartwarming you gave me come back to you a hundredfold, dear 1912."
The name of Click Morrill has recently appeared frequently in the petroleum industry trade publications due to his activities, as executive director of the Atlantic Coast Oil Conference and of the New England Independent Oilmens' Association, in connection with the oil shortage. Tn December he submitted to Secretary of the Interior Krug a detailed blueprint for a suggested industry products rationing program as opposed to threatened Government control. He was also appointed as a member of a ten-man industry committee by Senator Tobey of New Hampshire to prepare a full presentation so that oil consumers in the New England shortage area will understand what steps the industry is taking to increase supplies.
Eddie Luitwieler's father, Clarence S. Luitwieler, died on January 2, after a short illness at his home in Abington, Massachusetts, at the age of 86. Condolences of the Class are extended to Eddie and his family.
Charley Gately's son, John, is a promising member of the Dartmouth Swimming Team.
Not only was the late Billy Baxter first of our classmates to have one of those "rare and beautiful books" dedicated to his memory in the Treasure Room of the Dartmouth College Library under the Alumni Memorial Book Fund plan recently adopted by 191 a and other classes, but the first voluntary contribution to the 1912 treasury earmarked for this fund was received by Lyme Armes from Billy's widow, Mart (Martha) Baxter—a check to "go toward someone's book," prompted by the suggestion in this column last December. "I think it's just a beautiful idea," said Mrs. Baxter's note, "and let me thank you for all the kindness the Class of 1912 has shown me."
Donations for Memorial Books have also been made for four classmates who died during 1947 with specimen bookplates and memorial cards sent to their widows, Mrs. James S. Newton, Mrs. Edmund X. Mitchell, Mrs. Paul R. Fellows and Mrs. Carl F. Pond.
Manville Whittemore was the recipient of a distinct honor that was bestowed upon him by his community. The award of the Arthur Boniface Scarsdale Bowl, given each year to a resident for outstanding service to the community of Scarsdale, New York, went to Manville this year. A resident of Scarsdale since 1924, he has a long and distinguished record for service, as, successively, president of the Town Club, Village Trustee, Mayor, member of the Westchester Defense Council and chairman of the Westchester County War Council. Last fall he was named chairman of a special Town Club committee on the nonpartisan nominating system.
I had a nice visit with Harry Wanner just before New Year's, when he was in New York with his wife spending the holidays with his daughter Jeannette W. Gilchrist. Harry had planned to drive up to Boston before returning home but was marooned in New York by the "big snow."
