First on the business agenda is a strong reminder from the class comptroller of the currency, Frank Bruni. Frank has reported that old '57 has fallen behind last year's pace for class dues. Thus far, we have tallied dues only from 415 of the '57s versus 478 at this time last year. For those of you who filed the dues request away with other bills for which payment has been deferred, why not dig it out now? This certainly is the season to replenish our dwindling coffers. If you have misplaced Frank's convenient self-addressed return envelope, send that check to Frank's address which appears at the top of this column.

Wedding March: Soon to be leaving the bachelor ranks is John Holliday whose engagement to Betty Sue Branson of Kansas City was announced in November. The future bride attended Smith and graduated from the University of Missouri. Both John and Betty are residents of Kansas City - Missouri side, that is.

Herb Schneidau is one who has stayed closely associated with the academic world. Herb recently accepted the position of assistant professor in the Department of English at the State University of New York in Buffalo. Prior to joining the faculty at Buffalo, he was an instructor of English at Duke University from 1961 to 1963. Dr. became part of his title when he received his Ph.D. from Princeton, where he had also worked on his M.A.

In Basking Ridge, N. J., Walt Stocker has opened an office for general dentistry practice. The dental drills started grinding at Walt's new office after he completed a twoyear stint with Uncle Sam's Army. Walt graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry in 1961. On the home front, Walt and his wife Ruth have one son, Thomas, who is now three years old. I'm sure he has 32% fewer cavities.

Another New Jersey resident, StuartSchiffiman, who is an optometrist, has established offices in Closter. From an article chronicled in the Bergen Review, it appears that Stu has become closely allied with perceptual training projects for young school children. Stu received his optometry training at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

When he is not at his desk at the Southern Counties Gas Company in Los Angeles, Ray Parsons is building quite a reputation as an owner of champion English and Irish setters. Ray also is probably the breadwinner of one of the largest '57 families. At last count, the Parsons family included one spouse, Barbara, five children (three girls, two boys), and five champion show dogs, all of whom live on the Parsons "ranch" in Orange, Calif. As the devoted dog fanciers, Ray and Barbara travel the circuit of dog shows on weekends. Diane and I had the pleasure of seeing them just recently when they were here for a San Francisco Show. This spring they will visit New York where Ray hopes to acquire a few more trophies for his collection.

It is always with deep regret that one reports the death of a classmate or member of his family. In November, Bill Hamel's wife, Frances, died of virus pneumonia in Tacoma, Wash. She is survived by Bill and four children, Robert, Terry, and twins, Chris and James. For the class of 1957, I extend our deepest sympathies, Bill.
