I hope the new year has been good to you so far. Things have been quiet in our household and so far we've been able to duck the Asian Flu which seems to be hitting almost everyone I know. The news is a little on the thin side and now that the Christmas holidays have passed, I hope some of you will have time to drop me a note.
Phil and Nancy Beekman have made a long move, all the way from Puerto Rico to Canada. As of January 1, Phil has become president of Colgate Palmolive in Canada. Also travelling a long way, but only temporarily, were Joan and BlakeHering. They had a combination business trip/vacation to the Orient. They ran into Pete Taylor '52 standing in the lobby of the Mandarin Hotel in Hong Kong.
Gail and Bob Malin got their 1967 tax deduction with plenty of time to spare before the year end deadline. Gail gave birth to Robert Lassiter, their second child and first son, on November 6.
Barron Sclsoder headed up the Darien, Conn., United Fund sustaining drive. He is associated with R. R. Donnelley & Sons having moved east from Chicago last year. Ross Cook has been awarded the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts. Russ is assistant vice president of Colonial Management Associates in Boston.
Byron Menides didn't have a very merry Christmas; he spent it in the hospital. I can't pronounce or spell his affliction, but it was serious and involved blood clots in his leg. Byron seems to be better, but will have to take it easy for several months.
Paul Dillingham moved back to Endicott, N. Y., last July. He is with IBM and is the Laboratory Pricing Representative for Printer Products. Paul moved into his new home on October 30 which he and Jayne built overlooking Harpur College with a beautiful view of the valley.
Dr. Andris Padegs was one of three engineers in the development laboratory of IBM who were granted a patent for a "switch board" to keep information flowing into and out of a computer. The invention, called an input-output interface, regulates the message traffic between the computer and such devices as magnetic tape drives, printers, and card readers. Andris is working in Poughkeepsie, N. Y.
Dave Halloran's annual Christmas letter was full of family news and included the fact that he was recently selected as Director of Marketing for Ballistic Missile Defense Systems at McDonnell Douglas. Dave is responsible for the Spartan program sales as well as sales in their advance research work on ABM systems. After a full year plus in Los Angeles, he says they enjoy it very much. A new home and heavy business travel have limited his extracurricular activities.
Two short notes in the world of finance, John Harris has been named a vice president of Harris Upham & Company, Inc. in Boston and Chuck Reilly has moved from Kansas City to Short Hills, N. J., and is associated with Oppenheimer & Company in New York.
Out Colorado way, Don McMichael has been elected president of the Dartmouth Association of the Great Divide. Don has become general agent of the Indianapolis Life Insurance Company after previously practicing law. He, his wife and three children live in Littleton. In Rochester, N. Y., Burt Dorsett has been elected to the board of trustees of the Monroe County Savings Bank. Burt is associated with the University of Rochester where he works on their investment program.
An article in the Los Angeles Times by Richard Bergholz featured some ideas of Tony Frank on how to help the problems of the Negro. The writer says that Tony has some fresh ideas, and that while they may not work, they are at least new and different and show some creative thinking.
