The Navy Department reported on March 23 that Lt. (jg) William C. Bailey had been killed in action.
Bill joined the Navy Air Corps during his senior year and after graduation reported for training at Floyd Bennett Field. He received his wings in March, 1942.
Attached to a fighter squadron, he served with the Naval forces in the occupation of Casablanca. The last word received from him was from the South Pacific area.
So again it strikes home. There are just a few details—nothing more. News like that wrenches our hearts, for it says so little for a man who gave his life to maintain a way of life. Our words, like all the rest, seem such little tribute for a man who has died a hero.
For the most part we will recall the living memory—the Dartmouth days—remembering him smilingly marching with the band down the football field. I think he would like it that way.
I also regret to state that Lt. (jg) Wally Jones, and Lt. (jg) Dick Howard have been listed as missing in action.
Wally left Dartmouth at the end of his junior year to join the Naval Air Corps, and the last word received from him was from the South Pacific.
Dick left Tuck School in 1941 to join the Navy, and has had almost continuous sea duty since that time. At present there are no more details, but may their safe return be soon.

Ensign Johnny White and wife "Pudge" dropped in one evening on their way to Norfolk, where John is joining a new outfit, and expects overseas duty soon.
Ensign Warner Bishop has been sent to P.C. school in Miami and writes that the Florida sunshine is indeed a welcome change from cold Argentia. "Bish" mentioned seeing Lt. Jack Schwer in Newfoundland.

Bob Austin is at Abbott Hall in Chicago taking V-7 training, and found Larry Thompson to be one of his instructors. Frank Hall, now a private in the Army, is at Camp Butner, N. C., and Sergeant Dave McKinney is with the Army Map Service in Washington.
Saw Ensign Jack Guenther of the CB's not long ago, and he mentioned the fact that Ensign Jack Devor is also with a construction battalion outfit in the Pacific.
Harvey's hint about the Willis heir 2 months ago brought forth the information that it's a girl—Diane by name—and "Catchie" wrote, "Buzz and I were both sorry at first that she wasn't a boy, for she would have been the class baby, but maybe we can have a Carnival Queen instead."
Buzz is now a It. (jg) and is training at Fort Worth, Texas, to be a flight instructor.
AND FROM OVERSEAS
A nice newsy letter from Ensign Vic Schneider says that he and Lt. "Monk" Larson USMC have been able to get together once in a while. For the rest of Vic's dope I will quote directly: "Saw Corporal Chet Williams.... so accustomed to seeing Chet with that motorcycle he used to ride around town that I didn't recognize him at first Lt. Clyde 'Bud' Martin, 'the Missouri Mule,' is stationed in California Harvey Dworken and Jerry Blumberg are in medical school I've been out here since July 14th—recently was given the job of U. S.
