IN ANSWER TO various inquiries about his attitude toward mention of his name for the forthcoming Senatorial campaign in New Hampshire, President Hopkins recently stated that he was not a candidate. He also declared that he did not think there existed the circumstances which some of his friends thought might arise and make it desirable for him to be a candidate in the Republican primaries.
"I am not and have not been a candidate," President Hopkins said. "Some number of my friends have thought that circumstances might arise that would make my candidacy desirable for proper representation of the desire of citizens of the State for assurance that the United States would assume its responsible role in post-war world affairs. I have said that if offering my name were indispensable to give representation to those holding this point of view, I would run but that other- wise I did not wish to do so. I do not think that such circumstances exist and therefore do not feel that I need further to consider any possible candidacy on my own part."
