Hal Hall who I previously reported as being laid up in the Veterans' Administration Hospital at the Sunmount in New York is coming along well. Have had several letters from him recently and he is most anxious to hear from fellows in the class. Why not drop him a line?

I have had two letters from Moffat in India which left there about six months apart and arrived here only a couple of months apart. He apparently is using his home as a hotel to get the missionaries out of the country. At one time he had 275 for whom he was trying to make arrangements for sailing and when he can't get hotel accommodations for them he puts them in his own home or a school. Mrs. Moffatt has recovered somewhat from her high blood pressure and was able to take a vacation with him this summer. They have recently had two grandchildren born to them. He states that India dreams of a great future after the war and instead of all getting together to make the dreams come true, they have more divisive factors and less cooperation between those of different faiths and different cultural backgrounds than thirty years ago.

Tom Parker is the new headmaster of Austin-Cate Academy, Center Strafford, N. H. His wife is on the faculty and is in charge also of the reopened boarding department at Thomas Hall. The Academy is one hundred and eleven years old, and is a coed institution.

In a letter from Stanley Gates received some months ago but which I had no opportunity to mention before this, he stated he wanted to be remembered to all of his old classmates. He said that he and his wife brought up a nephew of hers from St. Paul and he was graduated from Dartmouth with a fine record in the class of 1937. He is now a lieutenant (sg) USNR, and is just back from a year and a half of duty with Navy fighting and bombing squadrons in the Aleutians.

Freddie Carroll has recently taken on another responsibility as President of the Trust Division of the American Bankers Association.

Sorry to report that Joanne Worthen, daughter of Joe and Dorothy, recently received word that her fiance, Capt. J. Coleman Motley Jr. USMC, of Abingdon, Va., had been killed in action. He had served for twenty-four months in Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan, Tinian, and the South Pacific.

Buster Brown has recently been transferred to Baer Field, Fort Wayne, Ind., where he is a major in the Air Corps.

A recent letter from Frank Williams stated he would be unable to attend, the Class Dinner before the Notre Dame game because he had a heart attack a year or two ago, and has to curtail his activities. This is the first we have heard of this. I guess we boys over fifty have to watch our step.

You have, undoubtedly, just received your bill from Chap for dues for the coming five years. You may be interested to know that in his report to the class at the Reunion he said he had paid for 869 subscriptions to the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and collected dues from only 629, which leaves 240 subscriptions not paid for. It is necessary that he have money from you as soon as possible to keep up these subscriptions.

Those who have not paid for subscriptions over a period of years should keep in mind that somebody else has to carry on if you don't come through. Announcements have just come out of the marriage of Dr. Charles Diller Ryan, son of "Dill" Ryan, to Corinne Payne Diller in Springfield, Ill., on August 5, 1944.

A letter received from Clarence Dunbar, who as you know is a lieutenant colonel, this morning advised us he is now located at Camp Butner, North Carolina, after serving in the Mediterranean for about 'two years. He tells me he recently held a Dartmouth Club meeting at an oasis in the Sahara Desert with his son Dick, who is a member of the class of '43. Dick has moved to North Africa and he also has been lucky enough to get on the rotation list. His other son, Bob, is still in the South Pacific area, but hopes to be home on rotation also. Clarence sends his regards to all the fellows and regrets he has been so busy that he just hasn't had the time to write to anyone.
