Now that the Ides o£ October are upon us, I take my typewriter in my lap to write a piece for the Ides of November, when the mornings will be dark and dreary, and you may well need cheering news of classmates to bolster your morale. A couple of old cronies have trodden the sidewalks of Princeton since I last wrote. Lt. Harry Litzenberger is here as instructor in the new Army-Navy Military Government School, and is fitting right into the life of the town, attending meetings of the local Rotary Club and having his wife and son ensconced in a handsome house on Hodge Road, which they share with two other Navy families; the housing situation in Princeton being as tough as it is pretty nearly anywhere else you want to name. Harry's job: running class discussions of military government subjects. Harry's students: colonels, captains, lieutenants from the Army; commanders, captains, and lieutenants from the Navy. T'other visitor was Reuel Denney, Dartmouth's ablest living poet. Reuel has been working for Time nigh on two years, and after sampling a number of departments, including Sports, has settled down for the nonce in the Education section. Reuel, wife, and boy a-so share a house communally with a couple of other families; theirs is on 92nd Street, New York, whence Reuel subways to Time s splendiferous offices in Radio City.

Lt. Art Allen has his Destroyer Escort now and is working out o£ San Francisco with the Pacific Fleet; we all wish him good hunting. Lt. Bob Black is in the Navy, and can be reached via 2205 Park Drive, Wilmington, Del. Lt. Dick Holway, Navy, ditto at 9 Crescent St., Shrewsbury, Mass. Rev. Chuck ("The Real") McCoy is at St. Thomas College, St. Paul, Minn. Dr. Les Meister is at the S. Permanente Hospital, Fontana, Calif. Don Simpson is in the Navy. Chuck Housel is a school administrator in Prosser, Washington State. Arnold Warmolts is in the Army and can be reached at 483 Colonial Road, Ridgewood, N. J. George Collins works for Cravath, Swaine, and Moore, 15 Broad St., N. C. Capt. Leon Warner, recently promoted, is chief of the headquarters unit of the civilian personnel section at the AAF Training Command Hq., Fort Worth, Texas, and there supervises the affairs of some three hundred and fifty civilians who assist the post officers in running the Training Command's network of flying and technical and basic training schools all over the nation. Joe Robinson is now a major, and Don Simpson and Jim Wakelin are both Navy lieutenants. Ted Ellis is now a corporal, serving at Camp Wolters, Texas, as instructor. He entered the Army last December, and his wife Carol awaits his return at Rockaway Park, Long Island.

Joe Fanelli, recently first assistant to the Assistant Attorney General, Claims Division, Dept. of Justice, has now become associated as partner in the law firm of Schoene, Freehill, Kramer, and Fanelli, with offices at 1755 N Street, N.W., Washington 6. A new daughter, Charlotte, was born to the Russ O'Briens September 2, 1944. She delightedly joins an older sister Carol, and a slightly less older brother, Jimmy.

A recent note from my old pal and better correspondent than I, Howie Sargeant, who is still with the Alien Property Custodian, National Press Bldg., Room 649, Washington, says, "Tucker has moved to the Pentagon, where he works as lieutenant (jg) in the Navy's Military Government Program. Dick Cleavess still with the WPB and seen by friends of mine, but not by me." And that about rounds out his news, says the Custodian.

Lt. (jg) Whipper Walser drops a card from San Diego: "At a bar here ran into Ned Rollins (lieutenant jg) who had just arrived from the East Coast with his LCI. Bob Sweeney '34 was with him. They will stay a few weeks before shoving off. Today saw Fred White (lieutenant USNR) who is stationed about fifteen miles south of my Coronado diggings, doing communications work, and having a number of "Waves attached to him. I am executive officer for a boat group, small landing craft which bring in assault troops. My wife Adeline is joining me soon for the last few weeks." And good luck to you, Whip and Ned. May the Japs fold quickly.

Robert Burns Buckley Jr., put in a welcome appearance at the household of Capt. and Mrs. Buckley on September 6, and congratulations on their acquisition may be addressed to the Buckleys at 9701 Shore Road, Brooklyn.

I have at hand a good letter from Johnny Clark's wife, Rhoda, together with a lot of other dope on promotions and address changes, but this is one of our numerous hell-weeks down here, boys, with something doing, one to eleven, as they used to say about Boston's Old Howard, and a lot of examination papers to give the double-O, and so with your permission, which you are not in any position to withhold, anyhow, I shall close now and save up my ammunition for the Christmas issue.

Sergeant Johnny Fish telephoned from Trenton just as this batch of notes was going off. John reports the-unwelcome news that First Lieutenant Bill Harlow who has been in France since June was recently reporting missing in action. The hope is that Bill is safe, although he may be a prisoner. Corporal Cal Geary is now in France (possibly after a great many months in England. Johnny himself has charge of a gun crew in an anti-aircraft unit and was to ship out in mid-October for an unknown destination, possibly the Middle or Far East.

I would be right glad of any Christmas gifts in the way of news that you can get around to sending to an aging beard who is just nat- urally hungering after more material.
