On the usual first Saturday of March, twenty-five loyal Ninety-Miners and two guests assembled at the University Club in Boston to celebrate the forty-fourth Annual Round-Up. Pete brought as a guest his boss, William A. Murray, a U. of M. Ninety-Nine man and Hobe brought his law partner, Mr. Moore.
The gang gathered earlier than usual and we all enjoyed about an hour of class gossip in the parlor adjoining the dining room.
The dinner was the usual first class one which the University Club always serves.
Montie and Surrey were the newcomers this year and naturally the dinner opened with Monties blessing.
Announcement was made that a communication from Syd Hayward conveyed the sad news that our 45th reunion at Hanover was impossible, therefore, in order to provide officers for the ensuing five years, the executive committee was duly authorized to appoint the necessary officers and plans for the 45th are naturally in suspense.
As a whole, the Round-Up was more serious than usual and for the first time no singing was enjoyed. "K. Beal" gave us quite a talk on the attitude of teachers to the business life and the Washington members told us more about the railroad difficulties.
Freem Sewall was absent on account of poor health for the first time for many years.
The various speakers were introduced by quotations from our Aegis, in which various prophecies were made about our future and strangely enough, many of these proved appropriate.
The 44th Annual Roundup was held at the University Club, New York City, on March 4. In all of the 44 years since this event was inaugurated there has never been a lapse nor a break in the date which is always the first Saturday in March. The Roundup this year was more largely attended and of greater interest than for many years. Every one had something to say and the remarks were mostly confined to personal activities and family events.
The Secretary presided and those present were: Allen, Barney, Beal, Brown, Chase, Clark, Dearborn, Donahue, Eastman, Fuller, Gannon, Hawkes, Hoban, Hobbs, Huckins, Irving, Kendall, Lynch, Parker, Rogers, Skinner, Sleeper, Surrey, Wiggin, and Winchester.
Also present were Allen Moore, guest of Owen Hoban and Mr. Murray of the University of Maine '99, guest of P. Winchester. Letters and telegrams were sent by many who could not attend.
