Hails His Successor
October 1945 Ermest Martin Hopkins

The following statement by President Hopkins appeared in the specialissue of The Dartmouth Log, Wednesday night, August 29:

John Dickey is universally respected among all who have worked with him or know him and he holds in high degree the affectionate regard of those with whom he has come into more intimate contact. Because of his cultural interests and intellectual qualifications, supplemented by wide experience in matters fundamental to the evolving world of tomorrow, and because of his knowledge in regard to Dartmouth affairs and his intelligent solicitude concerning these, he was, from the beginning of the Trustees' consideration of the impending vacancy, one of those several whose qualifications for the president's office were accepted as outstanding. I am happy in his election. I have no slightest question in regard to the satisfaction which will be felt by the Hanover community and Dartmouth men everywhere as they come to know him in official and personal relationships.
