OUR PRINCIPAL ITEM to report is the visit of Donald W. Cameron, Associate in Placement, from the College, who visited our group on Feb. 12. We held a lunch, with about 25 present, to hear a discussion of the program for assisting Dartmouth men in obtaining positions upon return from the services or, largely at a later date, upon graduation. An enthusiastic discussion period followed, and the assemblage was genuinely sorry that after all it was a working day (apart from the bankers) and more than two hours for lunch was not quite to be recommended.
In the evening a smaller group of those who have in an amateur way done a lot of fine work in helping Dartmouth men get located met again with Don for dinner, and adjourned to a conference room where we talked over tentative plans until a scant few minutes before train time. Not only the tenor of the discussion, but the second-hand contact with the College, proved an inspiration to all of us. We have just learned that Dean Neidlinger can be with us on Saturday, March 24, and so this date will constitute our annual dinner and business meeting. We all shall be glad to see the ever-popular Pudge again, and trust that an excellent turnout appears.
There aren't too many items of local news. Most of the boys seem to stay put. Nate Parker '26 has returned into the same suit that would have fitted him when he graduated, being released from the AMG after more than a year in England and France. We hear that Major Ralph Thomas, also '26, received some injuries in an air accident in England, but is well oh the way to recovery. Fred Babcock '36, our president, will never get a fourth term, as with three daughters to show for himself, he is only patronizing Mt. Holyoke or Skidmore; and the same goes for the last president, Bill Lang '33, who has two daughters; and Shep Patterson '24, treasurer, with three daughters also. The undersigned must admit having only one son, but at least there goes Dartmouth i960! May we also stick in a comment that it has been our good fortune to interview a couple of A-1 boys who want to go to Hanover, who will do the College a great deal of credit, and who in turn flatter us by picking our College.
John Gearhart '26, our present Alumni Council representative, is doing fine work in coordinating the entering freshman program, as well as a lot of other important alumni business.
May we mention again to you delinquents that our regular weekly luncheons in the grillnoons are going on with exceptional enthusiasm, and we wonder why a few more of you don't show up each week.
