Four of the eight living members of 1884 responded to the call for our delayed Class Reunion on June 28-29-30, 1946: Joseph S. Matthews, President; John F. Springfield; Benjamin P George, Class Agent; and William J. Starr, Secretary,
To the added pleasure of the occasion was the presence of five additional members of the Springfield family: Mrs. John F. Springfield; two daughters, Mrs. Shields Warren and Miss May Springfield; and two granddaughters, Emilie and Patricia Warren. All of us were housed at South Mass, making one of the most enjoyable if smallest family reunions in the history of 1884.
On Saturday morning Springy's two autos generously supplied conveyance of the entire party to Thetford Hill, Vt., to become united with our dear old classmate, William Slade, in his ninetieth year and to meet again his estimable wife and faithful helpmate in his declining years.
Snapshots of the entire delegation were taken by William Slade III, William Slade's grandson and GI, just released from the U.S.A. Service. Saturday noon the entire party was invited and partook of a most sumptuous luncheon on the invitation of Prof, and Mrs. Artemas Packard. Mrs. Packard is the daughter of our greatly beloved classmate, Prof. George D. Lord, who deceased June 29, 1945.
Again snapshots of the entire party were taken, but the sun's heat acted upon your Secretary unfavorably so that his turtlier usefulness was somewhat curtailed.
On Sunday, the 30th, a business meeting was called and the following class officers were elected: Matthews, President; George, Class Agent; and Starr, Secretary.
All in all, it was a spontaneous and joyful Reunion, and the Springfields added tremendously to the pleasure and entertainment of the 62nd Reunion of 1884.
Letters from Hodgdon and Hurlbert regretfully told of their inability to be present; Hodgdon adding a fervent "God's Blessing" on the College and on all his beloved comrades in 1884. Your Secretary, on account of the indisposition which followed as a result of heat prostration at the Reunion, was unable to prepare this report in season for the August number of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
