TWO NEW DIVISIONAL MAJORS in the fields of international relations and public administration will be introduced at Dartmouth this fall, after more than a year devoted to their preparation. Staffs recruited from the various departments in the Division of the Social Sciences will teach the two majors, and enrollment in each program will be limited to 25 men in any one class, with a general average of 2.5 and competence in English composition required of all applicants.
Dr. John Pelenyi, Professor of Government and former Hungarian Minister to the United States, is chairman of the International Relations Major and has been in charge of planning its content and teaching staff. Chairman of the Public Administration Major, with similar planning responsibilities, is Russell R. Larmon '19, Professor of Administration on the Benjamin Ames Kimball Foundation. Both curricula, broadly liberal in content, are designed for men looking ahead either to careers in the public service or to careers in business, journalism, teaching or community leadership in which knowledge of these fields will be valuable.
In addition to the two new divisional majors, an introductory course in international relations is being inaugurated this fall by the Department of Government, with Prof. John W. Masland, formerly of Stanford University, joining the faculty to direct it. Elective courses in administration are also open to the general student body.
