The most air-minded member of the Dartmouth faculty is Dr. Ralph E. Miller '24, versatile Professor of Pathology and Assistant Dean of the Medical School, who has owned his AeroncaChief plane since the spring of 1942 and has 800 hours of flying time to his credit. His red plane which he keeps at the White River Junction airport is a familiar sight to Hanover inhabitants who have often seen it above them, equipped with skis in the winter and pontoons in the summer. Dr. Miller frequently lands it on the river, and tries his luck at fishing.

He is active in the Civil Air Patrol and has flown as far as Chicago to attend medical meetings, but his main purpose in flying is enjoyment. He reports that one of the greatest pleasures for a flyer about Hanover is in watching the change of season from the air, along the river valley and in the hills. Dr. Miller's most recent improvement in plane equipment is a "buzz buggy," or paratrooper's motor bicycle, which folds up and can be used for convenience or in emergencies. Its chief drawback is its fascination for all the small boys in Hanover who come to bribe Dr. Miller's twelve-year-old son Ralph for a ride on it.
