Bud Tyler decided back in May that the job was too big, and Art Nichols decided that married life was a fine thing and so, after due parliamentary deliberation, I was selected to be the new coordinator of the affairs of '45. Both Bud and Art deserve a vote of thanks for the time and effort they put forth in behalf of our class.
Perhaps a little personal information is in order here. Last February I was married to Phyllis Hakes of Findlay, Ohio, and Ohio Wesleyan. In June I received my M.C.S. from Tuck and in July, Phyl and I came out here where I had accepted a job in the Group Department of the Bankers Life Company. And here we are today wishing we were back in Hanover for another year.
Soon after I took this job as Secretary I began formulating plans on how best to do the job. It is a foregone conclusion that no one person can hold this class together. All of us must work together. On the other hand, it is my job to facilitate the passing of information and to keep some permanent record available for the ready reference of everyone seeking information about anyone in the class.
At the present time I am completing a card catalogue of all members o£ the class. I have a sxB card for every '45 and on that card I am recording all the information I can get on that person, such as nickname, engagement, marriage, children, jobs, graduate school, etc. Some day this should be a complete, interesting, and valuable history of our class.
Bob Ross has been selected to represent 1945 on the Class War Memorial Committee. This committee will make a thorough study of appropriate memorials which a class might want to give to honor its war dead. It is hoped that each class can be given an opportunity to have its memorial worked into the plans of the new Hopkins Center. Bob or I will be glad to hear of any suggestions you may have on this. Bob lives at 147 Cleveland St., Orange, N. J. He recently began working as a claim adjuster for Banker's Indemnity Insurance Cos. of Newark.
Class Treasurer Rod Walser, despite the fact that he was married to Cindy Boss of Albany and Smith on September 6th, will be all business soon. So expect to hear from him concerning reasonable dues and your ALUMNI MAG. subscription. Rod will explain the whole thing to you, but I just wanted to prepare you for the jolt. Rod and Cindy will be in Hanover for the coming year while he gets his master's in chemistry.
Among recent Hanover visitors were Chas.Walthall, Fred Byers, Dr. Calvelli, and Ev andAirs. Goltra.
Bob Ross writes that Don deB. Campbell spent his summer weekends at Lake Owassa, N. J. and that Dick Murray is the proud father of a man child.

Probably more of us have had vacations from the service, school, or work this summer than any time since 1941. And one never knows who one will bump into until one starts to travel. We ourselves had the pleasure of drifting into Bob Sluyter and Ed Crane's sister-in-law (they are engaged) in the middle of Lake Champlain in August. Bob is at Syracuse now after a year at California in 1942. Ten minutes after leaving Bob, your forgetful correspondent began to hazily recall some of the data he wrote about these two in the June MAGAZINE; that's how it goes! Oh yes! Bob was asking about his old roomie. Bill Brindley (a terrible correspondent, said Bob) and one James Knowles; mayhap these gentlemen could reach Bob at Syracuse.
Speaking of Senator Knowles reminds us that we should commend the class and especially Jim for our steadily improving showing in this June's Alumni Fund. The class achieved more than its objective; next year perhaps we can move up to first (over this year's second place) in the Little Green Derby by eking out a higher percentage of donors. However, the important accomplishment was the usual soaring over the objective by the College as a whole.
There you have my first attempt. No doubt there is some fact about you that I should know and that the rest of the class would be interested in learning. I can't write it up if I don't know about it. I will be interested in hearing from all of vou and as often as you like.
In closing I would like to say that Rod and I are open for any suggestions which you might have as to how to strengthen the bonds of '45. We are here to serve you. Make us work and the whole class will benefit. See you next month.
