Yep, I have moved again. This time to Syracuse, N.Y. in another jump in the right direction; back toward Hanover. The story is that my company decided to open a group office here and at the same time decided that I should be the one to do it. Things will be a little confusing for a little while, what with Phyl and young Jim back in Detroit. In fact all of my Class records are there, too. So this will have to be a little fill-in column.
Phyl tells me that Don Deß has gotten out another Newsletter. Can't wait to read it. Last I heard he was asking for a little help along news-hawking lines. Hope you have sent him a card about yourself.
Let's start off the news with a listing of recent visitors to Hanover as evidenced by their being registered at the Hanover Inn: Jim Broderick of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. David Goldstein of New York City, John Halstead also of New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Elly Mover of Watertown, Mass., Dr. and Mrs. Jim Houghton, of Jersey City, and Don Evans of Drexel Hill, Pa. That was quite a good sized list this month.
I do remember one startling thing that arrived in Detroit just before I left to come over here. It concerned Bob Pease and his gal friend, Joan Phillips. It seems they are going to be married in March. Cannot quite recall the date.
Burt Hicock and Miss Beatrice Bickford became engaged the latter part of January. Mrs. Hicock's schools were Oakwood School at Poughkeepsie, Dana Hall, and the University of Vermont. She is at present on the Botany Department staff at Dartmouth. Burt is studying in the Graduate School of the University of Minnesota. Probably sees Ossie Cowles and Joe Vancisin '44 from time to time.
Getting back to Dr. Houghton, it seems that Jim and his wife were more or less on a honeymoon when they visited Hanover. Jim and Velma Jeanne Bull were married the 29th of January in Westfield, N.J. Mrs. Houghton was also a University of Vermont gal and she was graduated from the U. of Maryland. Jim, as you remember, is also a graduate of the U. of Maryland; the Medical College. He is on the resident staff at Jersey City Medical Center.
Bob Grunditz and Carol Lorraine Shawcross are engaged to be married. Since there is no mention made of a wedding date I assume they are already man and wife, and that this announcement is a little stale. But what can I do when you modest people refuse to let me know what you are doing? Pardon the interruption. Miss Shawcross was graduate from Walnut Hill School and is a junior at Mount Holyoke. The latest news I have of Lefty's doings is that he is attending Tuck School.
Charles Williams "Ducky" Drake and Miss Joyce Watter of New Jersey are also engaged. Joyce is a graduate of Edgewood Park Junior College. Ducky is personnel manager of the Lehigh Warehouse and Transportation Company of Montclair.
Remember Bob Farrell? Well, he married a cover girl, which definitely puts him in an elite class of some kind. According to the newspaper account I am reading, they were married without publicity. In fact, they were married at Sugar Hill, N.H. and then stole off to Nassau. Before the wedding Mrs. Farrell was Arlene Dahlman. Her mother lives in Larchmont.
Bruce Kenworthy, toTmer Big Green Tennis Captain, and Miss Virginia Thacher Brock of Port Washington were married early in February. Virginia is a graduate of Colby Jr. Bruce is working for Bauer & Black.
Miss Gladys Garlisch of West Paterson, N.J. is engaged to Bob Aldom. Her schools were Central High of Paterson, New Jersey College for Women, and the Paterson General Hospital School of Nursing. Bob is with the Guarantee Trust Cos. of New York.
Sterling Black and Charlotte Elizabeth Weber are engaged. They are slated to be wed in March. Miss Weber's family is in Rochester, N.Y. but she is currently living in Washington, D.C. where she is an accredited correspondent at the White House, the State Department and the Capital. She belongs to the State Department Correspondents Association. She formerly worked on TheRecord in Philadelphia. Miss Weber is an alumna of Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Sterling, son of Associate Justice Hugo L. Black of the United States Supreme Court, will graduate from Columbia Law School in May.
Andy Carstensen is married. He and Elizabeth Marsh *of Scarsdale were married in February. On hand to help Andy get off to a good start were Johnny Chambers, JackMarlette, Earl Flood, Bob Stumm and GeneBokar. With that gang around Andy must have gotten a wonderful send off. Mrs. Carstensen is a graduate of the Masters School and Conn. College for Women.
