THE 40TH ANNUAL DINNER MEETING of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia was held at the Racquet Club on March 6, 1947, with 85 alumni present.

The following officers were elected for the coming year: President, John E. McLaughlin '28; Vice President, Henry C. Wright '17; Secretary, Cornwall Miller '39; Treasurer, Herman J. Trefethen '26; and Arthur B. Jopson Jr. '45 was elected on the executive committee to serve for a term of three years.

Our guest speaker for the evening was Dean Stearns Morse who discussed the various problems facing him in his new position as Dean of Freshmen. It was interesting to the alumni to learn that about 12% of the applicants to Dartmouth class '51 would be accepted this spring. Our club members interviewed some 250 applicants in the Philadelphia area alone.

We are having the Dartmouth College Glee Club down for a concert at the Bellevue Stratford hotel on Monday evening, March 31st. This concert will be followed by dancing to the music of Howard Lanin's orchestra. We hope to plan on the Glee Club making this concert an annual event here in Philadelphia.

George A. Hahn '32, retiring President, presided at the meeting and the Treasurer reported a balance of some .$800 which was all the nominating committee needed to persuade him to retain his office for the sixth successful year.

The secretary pointed out that on December 18, 1906, the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Philadelphia was organized with Ed McMillan '01 elected secretary and treasurer. Ed was on hand for our meeting this year and represented the oldest class present.

At the close of the meeting Heinie Wright '17 led cheers while Dick Hardt '34 and Herb Heston '34 led informal singing until the early morning hours.
