Under the expert direction of Coach Red Hoehn, the squash team completed a season of five wins and four defeats. Two of the defeats were encountered at the hands of Yale and Harvard early in the season—before the Christmas vacation, in fact. Since that time, the team showed steady improvement and boasted a 5-8 record in the calendar year 1947, with both of these losses coming by a single point. Victories were rung up over Wesleyan (7-2), M.I.T. (5-2), Toronto (6-1), Williams (5-4), and Amherst (8-1). Defeats were sustained from Yale and Harvard (as noted), Army, and McGill.

The season was climaxed by the National Intercollegiate Championships, held in Hanover for the first time. Zeke Straw of the Green won his match in the first round but met defeat in the second at the hands of the 6th seeded player in the tournament. Hank Hartmann also won his initial encounter, only to lose in the second round to the 4th seeded player. Captain Bill Barrett had the most unfortunate luck of all in the draw, coming in initial contact with Landry of McGill, who continued on (after beating Barrett in four hard* games) to become National Intercollegiate Champion. All in all, the team had a very creditable season. Red Hoehn and the College can well be proud of them.
